‘Mamma Mia!’ Will Return to Broadway This Summer

Mamma Mia! is returning to Broadway.

The hit musical, which ran on Broadway from October 2001 to September 2015, will return to the Winter Garden Theatre this summer starting Aug. 2. An opening night celebration will be held Aug. 14. The limited engagement will play in New York through Feb. 1, 2026.

“When Mamma Mia! opened on Broadway in 2001, the show had already launched productions in London and Toronto and played a sold-out North American tour. Despite the glowing reception we received in those markets, nothing could have prepared us for the outpouring of love and acclaim (and dancing in the aisles!) that overwhelmed us when we arrived in New York at the magnificent Winter Garden Theatre,” creator and producer Judy Craymer said.

“Last year, Mamma Mia! celebrated 25 successful years in the West End, and it’s truly fantastic to bring the original production back to its Broadway home after 24 years.

The show, which also launched the movie starring Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, currently has multiple productions playing around the world, including the 25th Anniversary North American tour; an International Tour and a full-length production on board the Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas.

Casting for Mamma Mia! on Broadway will be announced later. The production is set to take over the Winter Garden Theatre after the run of Good Night and Good Luck, starring George Clooney, which runs from April 3 through June 8.

The show features music & lyrics by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, a book by Catherine Johnson, direction by Phyllida Lloyd and choreography by Anthony Van Laast. The production is designed by Mark Thompson, with lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce & Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision, additional material & arrangements by Martin Koch.
