Javier Pons Named Chief Content Officer, Head of Telemundo Studios

Javier Pons has been promoted to chief content officer and head of Telemundo Studios.

Pons takes on the role after joining the company as executive vice president of Telemundo Studios last year. The role will expand his responsibilities, which include overseeing the studio’s scripted content, to include overseeing the network’s entertainment division, including developing and producing Telemundo’s unscripted content, daily shows and live specials.

He will report directly to Luis Fernandez, chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

“Since his arrival to Telemundo Javier has delivered great results and strengthened Telemundo Studios’ position for the future. I’m excited to see him apply his vast experience in production and media management to his new expanded role as Chief Content Officer,” said Fernandez. “He is an accomplished media executive, and I’m confident he will continue to excel in this expanded leadership role, as he brings his expertise and creativity to our entertainment division while continuing to oversee our Studios.”

Before joining Telemundo, Pons served as the general director of Globomedia, a top production company in Spain, and head of TV at The Mediapro Studio. In these roles, Pons led the creation and production of several mobile and streaming series including Nasdrovia [Movistar], Iron Hand (Mano de Hierro) [Netflix], and The Boarding School: Las Cumbres (El internado, las Cumbres) [Amazon].

Pons also helped create popular competition shows including Ninja Warrior and El Juego de los Anillos. He’s also held leadership roles in major radio and television companies in Spain such as Prisa Radio, Televisión Española and Grupo KISS Media.

“It is a privilege to be able to expand my role to oversee Telemundo’s award-winning entertainment division.  I am grateful for the opportunity to join a team of professionals that have redefined Hispanic entertainment,” Pons said. “I look forward to working together across Studios and Entertainment to continue to develop and produce the most innovative, contemporary and engaging content in Spanish-language media.”
