Weezer is still slated to play Coachella this weekend despite bassist Scott Shriner’s wife Jillian Lauren getting shot by police earlier this week, multiple sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.
Police officers shot Lauren on Tuesday as they were in pursuit of three suspects that fled during a hit and run case, making their way to Lauren’s neighborhood of Eagle Rock. As the authorities continued their search behind one home, they saw a Lauren outside her neighboring residence, armed with a handgun.
Authorities said they asked her to put her gun down multiple times but said that she refused and pointed at them and officers shot her. She went back into her home, coming back outside later, and she was taken into custody. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and she was booked for attempted murder.
No officers were hurt during the shooting, authorities said, and one of the hit and run suspects has been arrested by Highway Patrol.
Weezer were added to the Coachella lineup as a last-minute surprise over the weekend, alongside Ed Sheeran, as acts including FKA Twigs had to pull out of the event. The incident with Lauren had understandably raised questions on whether Weezer’s set would still happen. They’re playing the Mojave tent for a Saturday afternoon set. This year’s headliners are Lady Gaga, Green Day and Post Malone, with a special set from Travis Scott as well.
The band hasn’t issued a statement on the matter yet, though THR has reached out for comment.
